Hiroshima is a good place to visit during the cherry blossom season.
Often, with slightly fewer crowds than Tokyo or Kyoto, the city offers a calmer atmosphere that blends rich history with the vibrant colors of spring.
On this list, we included the best ones in Hiroshima as well as those outside the city, so you can explore more.
Here are the top 10 spots to experience the sakura in and around Hiroshima:
1. Hiroshima Castle

The castle grounds (also known as Rijo Park) host about 450 cherry trees. The sight of the reconstructed wooden castle rising above a sea of pink blossoms is classic Japanese scenery. The wide moats provide excellent spots for photos of the reflections.
2. Hijiyama Park

Located on a hill overlooking the city, this park is home to about 1,300 trees. It’s a local favorite for hanami (picnic parties). It also houses the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, blending culture with nature.
3. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

The most iconic spot in the city. Approximately 300 cherry trees line the Motoyasu River, framing the Atomic Bomb Dome. It’s a powerful place to reflect while walking under the pink canopy. For a unique view, you can take a river cruise boat to see the blossoms from the water.
4. Shukkeien Garden

This traditional Japanese landscape garden dates back to 1620. Its circular path around a central pond offers meticulously manicured views of cherry blossoms reflecting in the water. It’s smaller and more peaceful than the public parks.

5. Miyajima Island (Itsukushima)

Just a short ferry ride away, this island features over 1,300 cherry trees. The contrast of the Five-Storied Pagoda and the famous "floating" Torii gate against the blossoms is a photographer's dream. Don't miss the area around Omoto Park for a slightly quieter experience.
6. Ueno Sakura Park (Shobara City)
Located in northern Hiroshima, this park is centered around a large pond and is another member of Japan’s "Top 100" list. It’s known for having some of the most beautiful nighttime illuminations in Western Japan.
7. Senkoji Park (Onomichi)
A bit of a trek from the city center (about 90 minutes), but widely considered one of the top cherry blossom spots in Japan. You can take a ropeway to the summit for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea through thousands of cherry trees.
8. Ondo-no-Seto Park (Kure City)
Famous for its brilliant red arched bridges, this coastal spot features around 2,300 cherry trees. The combination of the deep blue sea, the red bridges, and the pink blossoms makes for a striking color palette.
9. Kikko Park & Kintaikyo Bridge (Iwakuni)
While technically in neighboring Yamaguchi Prefecture, it is a very common day trip from Hiroshima. The five-arched wooden bridge is spectacular, and the adjacent park features thousands of trees and several varieties of blossoms.
10. Haji Dam (Akitakata City)
If you want scale, this is it. Around 6,000 cherry trees surround the lake. It is one of the most popular spots in the prefecture for cycling through "tunnels" of flowers. At night, the trees are beautifully illuminated.
